Archipelagic Sea Lane A line shown on the chart which shall be used when navigating in an archipelago. A vessel shall not navigate beyond the axis line or limits.
Archipelschifffahrtsweg Der auf einer Seekarte ausgezeichnete Weg, der beim Befahren eines Archipels zu nutzen ist. Von einer Navigation außerhalb des Weges wird abgeraten.
ARCS Admiralty Raster Chart Service -weltweiter amtlicher Rasterkartendienst des UKHO auf der Grundlage der UKHO Seekarten. Der Dienst umfasst die Lieferung von Raster Nautical charts (RNCs) auf CD-ROM und einen regelmäßigen Updatedienst. In einem Dual-Fuel ECDIS werden RNCs in einem RCDS-Modus als Ergänzung der ENCs in solchen Gebieten eingestetzt, in den keine ENCs verfügbar sind. Admiralty Raster Chart Service -official UKHO raster chart service beased on UKHO nautical charts. The service implies Raster Nautical charts (RNCs) delivery via CD-ROM and a regular up-date service. ECDIS is using RNCs in Dual-Fuel mode in areas where official ENCs are not available.
Area to be avoided A routing measure comprising an area within defined limits in which either navigation is particularly hazardous or it is exceptionally important to avoid casualties and which should be avoided by all ships, or certain classes of ships. (IHO Dictionary; Special Publication S-32; 1994)
