The winter of 2005/2006 was exceptional for the amount of snow that fell. Under normal conditions north German winters are typically "dirty" but we don't always get snow; this time we had a real "whiteout".
Usually we get heavy snow in conjunction with strong winds caused snow drifts, which on one hand makes car driving an adventure and on the other hand helps to improve one's fitness through all the shovelling!
At the start of this winter the winds were calm, and when the snow did fall it was extremely wet snow which produced some bizarre looking "sculptures" as it built up on, and around, everyday objects. For instance our clothesline was "sheathed" in snow giving it an imposing appearance.
